I feel very privileged once again to represent Independence Kiwanis this year as your President.

 

First of all, I want to thank my sisters that are here today and my brother-in-law and nephews for supporting me in all my endeavors with Kiwanis.  I often seek out my Mother and Father for guidance from the heavens above.

 

When I was preparing my acceptance speech I realized that the evening was not about me, but about each and every one of YOU.   It is about the support you give to one another at meetings, events and during a crisis and what you have accomplished to make a difference.

 

The thought that this group of Independence Kiwanians can accomplish so much for so many, locally, nationally, and globally is astounding.

 

Take a moment to reflect on this past year…

 

Because of you…we will now reach the children and youth in every school in Independence through K-Kids, Builders Club and Key Club.

 

Because of you…we have brought the local churches and the community together and bowed our heads in prayer

 

Because of you…we have reached the children in Honduras and our own hands have built a church

 

Because of you…we have offered scholarships to the future leaders of our country

 

Because of you…we have brought new members to our club to share our dreams

 

Because of you…we have brought nourishment to the suffering in Africa

 

Because of you…we have tutored children less fortunate

 

Because of you…we have brought a child joy and squeals of laughter riding on a pony

 

Because of you…a child has enjoyed the excitement of catching their first fish

 

Because of you…we have brought together family and friends to share and make memories at chicken barbeques and Home Days

 

Because of you… a child suffering the heartache of losing a parent will learn to smile again with the help of our donation to Cornerstone of Hope

 

Because of you …the Easter Bunny arrives with a basketful of eggs even when there is snow on the ground

 

Because of you… others have learned a little more about the history of our great county because of our flag contest

 

 

 

Because of you… a child with special needs will be able to play on a playground

 

Because of you…we have touched the shoulder of a soldier in Afghanistan and brought a smile to the children in a war torn country

 

Because of you Santa Claus arrives early on his sleigh for children that are naughty or nice

 

YOU HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE

 

Because of you… and with humility, I am motivated to serve as your President once again.  God bless you.

NEXT MEETING:  Our next meeting will be our on Monday, October 6, 2008 at Concordia Church.  After this meeting we will hold our October board meeting.  It will be necessary for the old board and new board members attend this meeting.  Everyone is welcome to stay. 

 

 

FALL BBQ:  Please return all unsold tickets and monies ASAP so that we can reconcile the BBQ quickly.

 

KIWANIS COMMUNITY GARAGE SALE:  This event runs from 9am to 2 pm at the Elmwood Recreation Center on Saturday, October 4, 2008.  The proceeds from this event will benefit the “Dorothy Ornas Scholarship Fund”.  If you are interested in working this event, give Edie or Marilyn a call.
