NEXT MEETING:  On Monday, April 14th our own Judge Debbie Nicastro will address the membership.

PAST MEETING:  There was no program due to the Board Meeting.

GUESTS:  Larry Myers, Lt Governor of the 24th Division was a guest.  We were very proud to have him attend the meeting.  He also attended the Board Meeting afterward and offered suggestions on some of the issues that were brought up.  One of our favorite former members- Earl Sheets showed up to say “howdy”.

    BOARD MEETING NOTES:

    1.        Wright requested that the Kiwanis pick up the cost for

refreshments for the World Day of Prayer.

Approximately $200 was requested.  The Board

    approved this expenditure unanimously.

    2.        Since we want a good showing at the World Day of

Prayer, the Board approved holding the regular meeting

of Kiwanis on Thursday, May 1st at the Middle School

    instead of Monday April 28th.

    3.        The Board held a lengthy discussion on the dues issue.

One of the points that was brought up was that the Club is paying for members who do not attend the dinners.  As a Club we are committed to the ladies of the Lutheran Church for 30 meals each week.  We pay for 30 meals whether they are eaten or not.  In the past 6 months we have averaged approximately 24 members for dinner each week.  This resulted in spending $1600 for uneaten meals.  At this rate by the end of the year we will have spent over $3000 dollars.  This is money we could be using for projects.  The Board is looking into how we can recoup some of these costs.

    4.        The Board will be meeting with the Church members to determine if something can be done.  If you have any suggestions for lowing dues email Senick at s3senick@cox.net.

HAPPY DOLLARS:  Senick tossed in the first dollar for Earl Sheets.  Penitz also had one for Earl.  Wright had two dollars one for the great weather he had in the Outer Banks and one for Kapustas picture in the Kiwanis magazine.  Kreizenbeck parted with a dollar for the beautiful weather and that his older son in getting married.  Todt was sorry he missed Rejna’s presentation the past week he had the flu.  Spilker’s dollar went to the Women’s Basketball Team.  Klepacz had a special dollar for Larry Myers’ wife.  It seems that she was his daughter’s second grade teacher.  Chodzin jumped in with a dollar for Nicastro’s birthday, which is Sunday.

KEY CLUB:  Kapusta reported that the Key Club members are working on a project to help seniors with their spring-cleaning.  They delivered 165 Easter baskets.

VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT:  It’s HERE!  The Volleyball Tournament! This weekend April 12 & 13.  Please be sure to show up for the times you sign up for.  Iula needs all the help he can get.

K-KIDS:  The K-Kids are making bookmarks in recognition of local librarians.  There will be a celebration on April 15th at 7:30 am to 8:00 am.  Breakfast will be served.  All Kiwanians are encouraged to attend.

SINGING:  Hornack led us in singing the Birthday Song for both Nicastro and Chodzin.  And our second selection was “Cruising Down the River”.  Just a side note, Lt. Governor, Myers said that Independence Kiwanis comes in second in singing Brunswick is first.

WORLD DAY OF PRAYER:  Will be held at the Middle School on Thursday, May 1st. 7-8 pm.  This will be our weekly meeting instead of hold a meeting on Monday April 28th.  So mark your calendars.

PANCAKE BREAKFAST:  Kapusta reported that the Breakfast brought in a profit of $4,167.  Now he needs all monies and unsold tickets immediately.  If you didn’t sell any tickets call him and let him know this so that he can reconcile the monies.  There also several batches of pancake batter taken to Malachi House who was greatly appreciative.

DIVISION COUNCIL MEETING: our club is hosting Division Council scheduled for Thursday, April 17th at 8:15 pm.  This would be the time for all members to attend a Division Council Meeting to show our interest and support.
