NEXT MEETING: Monday,
February 25th Bob Sykora will speak on the Museum of Modern Art.
PAST MEETING: The
General Meeting was called to order and adjourn very quickly so that the
entertainment could be enjoyed. Our
speaker was Jeff Cavallo aka “Island Jeff”.
He entertained the group with his Steel Pan aka “Steel Drum”. Jeff is a fellow Kiwanian from the North
Royalton Club. What a great evening of
basking in some Caribbean music to take away the coldness of Cleveland and
transport the members to the islands. Jeff has been playing the Steel Pan since
1987 when he bought his first steel pan in Grenada. Did you know that there is a company in Akron
that produces steel pans? A Steel Pan is
softened and stretched by hand. They are
one piece of steel with no soldering and consist of 27 notes. Jeff played such favorites as: “The Hawaiian Wedding Song”,
“Margarittaville”, and “Tiny Bubbles”.
A moment of
silence was held for all of the club’s deceased past presidents.
Thank
you to all the past presidents and member’s spouses that joined us for the
evening. Approximately a dozen
presidents were in attendance and it was wonderful to see Anne Sauter! Tom Priebe was in attendance as well as the
Zimlichs, Bud and Lillian.
SINGING: None,
yeah! Sorry, couldn’t resist. Instead we enjoyed listening to our guest
HAPPY DOLLARS: Happy Dollars were plentiful: His wife, Anne, threw in Dollars for Gene
Sauter. Many dollars were tossed in for
our past presidents and fellow Kiwanians;
Kapusta threw in a buck in for the students who participated in
the music competition in Northfield. Chrzanowski
had a dollar for George Jicha, Jr.
because he will be home in 4 more weeks!
A few dollars showed up for the weather-Spring is just around the
corner!
THANKS To Edie Schilla for taking notes in the absence of your
secretary. “The
opinions expressed here are those of the note taker and not necessarily those
of the regular bulletin editor”.
PANCAKE BREAKFAST: Kapusta needs a few more bodies on Saturday, March 1st for set up. Check your
calendars and make some room for a few hours at the Middle School about 8:00 am
MEMORIAL COMMITTEE: If
you wish to be a part of this committee, please contact President Senick. The committee will be meeting to discus types
of memorials would be appropriate for Mel Kurtz and other deceased members.
MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE: The
newly formed Membership Committee consisting of approximately eight members
under the Chairmanship of Iula, met last week and already is
formulating plans to recruit new members.
They are planning to produce a brochure with the help of Natalie Buc at
the Civic Center.
SPECIAL NOTE: Footes
Greenhouse in Valley View got flooded once again, and the family is looking for
help in cleaning up the business.
