NEXT MEETING:  Monday, February 11th our guest speaker will be Val Kocin from the Independence Library.  She will give us a run down on the many programs that the Library has to offer.

PAST MEETING:  Because of the Board Meeting we didn’t have a speaker, however, Edie Schilla and Chrzanowski showed a slide presentation sent to Chrzanowski by George Jicha, Jr. in Afghanistan.  The slides showed various scenes from the countryside and the people that Jicha encounters daily.  It was quite interesting.

    BOARD MEETING NOTES:

    1.       The Board accepted the resignations of the

following members:  Bob Biondi, George Lombardi and Tom Zak.  These members had not attended a meeting in several months nor had they paid their dues.  When contacted they each felt that their life styles had changed and they could no longer be active members.

    2.       The 2008-2009 Budget was revised slightly by the board.   The board discussed various items that were submitted by the committee chairs and removed some and added others.  After a lengthy discussion, the Board moved to pass the budget as revised.

    3.       The forming of a membership committee was discussed. Iula has about six members signed up.  Ideas were suggested.  He will be holding a meeting soon.

    4.       President Senick is forming a committee to determine an appropriate tribute to Mel Kurtz and to all our deceased members.

SINGING:  Hornack led us in singing Happy Birthday to Chuck Schilla and to recognize the New York Giants “The Sidewalks of New York”

    WEEKLY THOUGHT

When you are content to be simply yourself and don’t compare or compete, everybody will respect you.

    Lao-Tzu

PAST PRESIDENTS’ NIGHT:  Mark you calendar for February 18th.  This is Past Presidents’ Night and a Spouses Night.  Kapusta will have a sign up sheet next meeting.  Entertainment will be a steel drum band.

PANCAKE BREAKFAST:  Kapusta has been passing out Breakfast tickets if you haven’t received yours, be sure to contact Kapusta.  The Breakfast is March 2nd.  Help will be needed to set up on March 1st as well as Sunday the 2nd.  Kapusta passed around a sign up sheet for members to sign up for the job they want to do.  Be sure to contact Kapusta.  We are now down five members so we need all the help we can get.

Mycoskie is gathering ads for the place mats.  If you or some one you know would be interested in purchasing one, they are business card size and cost $50.  The mats are use for two years.

HAPPY DOLLARS:  Chrzanowski passed the bucket.  He also placed a dollar in the pot so that he could tell a joke.  Wright felt the joke qualified as a traditional “dumb” joke so he contributed a buck.  Senick tossed in a dollar for Ornas feeling good and one for all the members.  Hornack had a buck for a good football game.  Todt won a football pool so that was worth a buck.  Klepacz had a dollar for Ornas feeling good.  Rejna returned from Honduras and tossed in a dollar to be back.  Kapusta was very appreciative of all the support he and his family received when his mother-in-law passed away.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT:  President Senick read a Thank You note from Doloras Kurtz for our contribution to Cornerstone of Hope in Mel’s name.

She also again stressed the need to concentrate on recruiting members!
