NEXT MEETING:  Monday, January 28th our own Chris Iula will be our speaker.  He will share with us the information he received when he attended a Kiwanis membership seminar.

PAST MEETING:  Tom Cravens from the Akron Aeros gave us an up date as to what the Club is doing.  They have a new manager, Mike Sorball.  Their old manager left to go to Tampa Bay.  He told us about how attendance is declining due to losing many of their corporate season holders.  He ended his presentation with a magic trick that really worked!

    SPECIAL BOARD MEETING

    NOTES

The Board discussed changing the name of the Annual Kiwanis Golf Outing from the Speedy Kosicki Golf Outing to the Kiwanis Memorial Golf Outing or something similar.  The thought being that we could honor all our deceased members, however, after the discussion the Board decided to keep the name as is.  The idea of honoring our deceased members was good. A committee will be formed to suggest appropriate events.  These ideas will be presented to the entire membership.

HAPPY DOLLARS:  Kapusta tossed in a dollar for his fellow member, Iula, because he made it back from his ski trip in tact.  Iula had a dollar that all members sell their Pancake Breakfast tickets.  Ornas tossed in a buck for the magnificent full moon.

INTERCLUB:  Benes was pleased with the interclub turnout for Brecksville.  Five members attended – Kukawka, Ornas, Edie Schilla and Spilker, plus Benes, himself.

GUESTS:  President Senick noted that Beverly Togliani was attending her third meeting

SINGING:  Hornack led us in singing the Birthday Song for Faehnrich and Jack Jordan.  We also recognized Bob and Dottie Ornas’s anniversary with “Yes Sir, That’s My Baby”.  And just for the heck of it he raised our spirits with “ You are My Sunshine”.

INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS:  Rejna left for Honduras Sunday morning.  He will give us a presentation on his return.

LENTEN PRAYER BREAKFAST:  Wright reported that reservations for the Division 24 Lenten Prayer Breakfast need to be in by January 30th.  The Breakfast is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008 at the Ridge Road United Church of Christ 6050 Ridge Rd, Parma.  Start time is 7:00 am PROMPTLY and it ends at 8:00 am, PROMPTLY (and they actually do begin and end on time), so you can go before work.   Cost is $7.00.  Contact Wright if you are interested in attending.

Wright also mentioned an invitation from Pastor Donna of the Rockside Road Church for a “Day of Prayer” sometime in May.  More on this later.

VOLLEYBALL.  Iula reported that the Volleyball tournament scheduled for Saturday April 12th and Sunday the 13th is sold out.  There are 12 teams each day.

PRESIDENT’S COMMENT:  President Senick congratulated Kukawka for receiving the “Noteworthy Award” at the Governor’s visit banquet, for this work with University Settlement House.

    Text Box: REMINDER
Many years ago, our Kiwanis Club had made an agreement with the Ladies of the Lutheran Church to guarantee them 30 dinners in order for them to break even, for our Monday Night meetings. In the past few months we have had 25 or less members for dinner. The Club pays the ladies for all 30 meals whether or not they are consumed. We are asking all members to join us for dinner for conversation, exchange of ideas and just pure fun!

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouth, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
