NEXT MEETING:  Monday, January 14th will be our next meeting, program to be announced that evening.  We will meet at Concordia Lutheran Church.

PAST MEETING:  There was no program due to the Monthly Board Meeting.  We did however, have a moment of silence for the loss of our last Charter Member, Mel Kurtz.  It was a sad evening!

    BOARD MEETING NOTES:

    1.       The budget was distributed for the Board to review and will be discussed at our February meeting.

    2.       The Board accepted the resignation of Tom Boyle who is moving to Texas.  He has accepted a new position there.

    3.       The Board approved a donation of $500 to Cornerstone of Hope in the memory of Mel Kurtz.

    4.       A committee will be formed to determine a tribute to Kurtz who was our last active Charter Member.

    5.       At the request of the Pancake Breakfast Chair, Kapusta, the Board approved an increase in the ticket prices.  This year the prices will be $6. for adults and $4 for children.

HAPPY DOLLARS:  There were an abundance of dollars for Kurtz.  Spilker was happy with all the Santa Delivery people.  Hornack was delighted to have the opportunity to play Santa.  Kapusta threw in a buck for the Ohio State Buckeyes for their upcoming win.  Chrzanowski tossed in a buck for Earl Sheets who stepped in to play Santa at University Settlement House.  Scott had several dollars – one was for his daughter, Kim who was accepted in to Pharmacy School with a scholarship and one for his daughter, Erin who just recently became engaged to a nice young man.  Klepacz was pleased with the coverage his son received from the Plain Dealer in the fashion section.  Feilino was impressed with Duhan who played Santa for Santa Delivery and was the only Santa who actually stayed on the sleigh through all the inclement weather.  Nicastro echoed his sentiments by tossing in a dollar for the “frozen” Santa.  Duhan was happy his kids were home for the holidays.  Kukawaka was pleased that he got to see his sister in San Diego and that she recognized him before she passed away last week.

INTERCLUB:  Benes has scheduled a “Ladies Interclub with Brecksville on Thursday, January 10 2008.  Let him know if you can attend.  This is our Annual ladies night out with Brecksville.

GUESTS:  President Senick introduced Beverly Togliano who is attending her first Kiwanis meeting.

SINGING:  Hornack led us in singing, in Kurtz’s honor, “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow” and “Boosting for Kiwanis”

INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS:  Rejna reported that “Project Peanut Butter” sent us a Thank You note for our donation to the cause.

    WEEKLY THOUGHT

Life is not a “brief candle.”  It is a splendid torch that I want to make burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations.
