NEXT MEETING: Monday,
October 15, 2007, we will learn about the threats of terrorism from John Joyce
who was formerly with the FBI and is now currently Security Director for RTA
PAST WEEK: Bruce
Harris a master pumpkin carver, carved a delightfully scary pumpkin. He also gave some helpful hints to make your
carving easier, safer and more fun. He stated
that that the best pumpkin is the one you carve with your children and
grandchildren. He started carving
pumpkins when his children were small (he had seven kids) one pumpkin for each
child. After s a few years the neighbors
starting asking him to carve their pumpkins he has since been written up in
Cleveland Magazine, carved a pumpkin for the grand opening of the Colonnade,
which to his surprise was300 lbs. He has
even traveled to Cincinnati, Ohio to carve a special pumpkin. He does not advertise because as he says he
just “does this for fun.” Some
suggestions he made include:
The stabbing
stroke is the safest way to enter pumpkin, but instead of cutting rock the
knife back and forth you have better control of the tool.
Use a sink
strainer to clean out the seeds and fibers from inside the pumpkin and cover
your hand in a plastic bag to minimize the messy removal of the innards.
Some of the largest pumpkins are grown right here in
AND THE
WINNER IS……

Left: George
Klepacz was the lucky winner of the hand carved pumpkin by Bruce Harris. Now all he has to do is figure out how to
keep it from molding before Halloween.
HAPPY
DOLLARS: Chrzanowki tossed in three bucks – one hoping his power
will come back on soon, one for the last warm days of Fall and one for his
nephew who was being interviewed that evening for Homecoming King. Shallcross had a dollar for the
Indians. Kukawka tossed in
a buck because Scouloukas wasn’t here last week to face the
music.
