NEXT MEETING:  Monday, September 17, 2007 our own John Scouloukas will talk on coin collecting.

PAST WEEK:  George Jicha, Past Lt. Governor and President of the Brooklyn Kiwanis Club spoke on his son in Iraq.  He also presented the Club with an American flag sent by the 1st Battalion 158th Infantry who are fighting the Global War on Terrorism for our support in sending school supplies.

There was a regular monthly board meeting.

    BOARD MEETING NOTES:

    1.       The Board voted to removed two members from the roster due to lack of dues payment and attendance.

    2.       The Independence School Board has sent a bill to Kiwanis for use of the High School for our Pancake Breakfast and for the Volley Ball Tournament.  After a lengthy discussion, the Board decided that these fees were not justifiable due to the amount of money and time Kiwanis contributes to the schools.  Treasurer Young is to send a letter to the superintendent of schools to question these fees, which we have not been charged in the past.

    3.       Eagle Scout, Greg Borowski requested funds to assist him in his Eagle Scout project, which is to upgrade markers and signage at the Land Lab.  Request referred to Youth Service Committee.

    4.       The idea of raising the ticket price for the Spring BBQ was brought before the Board.  Suggestion tabled for future meeting.

HAPPY DOLLARS:  Happy dollars were very scarce.  The only one truly happy was Scouloukas and we all know why.  There were two contributions for being back at the Church and Spilker threw in a buck for the cooks.

INTER/CLUB:  Benes has scheduled an interclub with Parma/Parma Hgts for Wednesday, Sept 12, 2007.  They meet at Momma Mia’s at 7:30.

Tae Kwan Du Tournment:  Sept. 15th at the High School.  Those of you who have signed up set up will be at about 6:30 am.  The organizers are expecting between 3000-5000 people for this event.

BUILDER’S CLUB:   Edie Schilla reported that the Builder’s Club has a new advisor, Carrie Grendell.

YOUNG CHILDREN PRIORTY ONE:  Kukawka reported that he took six high school students to University Settlement House for the reading program.

CHICKEN BBQ:  The Fall Chicken BBQ is here!  Chuck Schilla has everything under control.  He will need help between 11:30 am and 3:30 pm.    Edie Schilla is asking for a few ladies to help with cutting and packaging the cakes on Sunday morning

SPECIAL INVITATION:  Bill Sharp, former Independence Kiwanian and past Lt. Governor of Division 24 and Past Governor of the Ohio District of Kiwanis International, has invited the Independence Club to interclub with his Port Clinton Club on Wednesday September 26, 2007 at 11:45 am.  There will also be a presentation of his Past Governor’s banner.   Although Sharp transferred to the Port Clinton Club because of his change in residence, he still works our spring and fall Chicken BBQ’s.  We would like to send a group of members to this interclub.  Sharp has also offered us a tour of Historical Johnson Island!  Lunch will be provided.  Kukawka is driving; so let him know if you would like to attend.  He can take 5 people in is car.

INSTALLATION DINNER:  Our Club’s Installation Dinner will be held on Monday Sept 24, 2007 at the Civic Center.  Catering will be done by Valley Catering and the cost per person I $10.00.  This is always a nice affair so be sure to clear you calendars to attend.  Sign up will be passed around at our meeting.

AUTUMN FESTIVAL:  This year as in previous years we will be participating in the City of Independence’s Autumn Festival held on the 30th of September.  We will be selling sweet corn and fresh cut fries and possible chicken nuggets.  See Wells to be counted in on those who will help.
