NEXT MEETING: August (yes, already) 6, 2007 our meeting will once again be held at
the London Pickle Works. There is no
program scheduled, however, we will hold our monthly Board Meeting.
PAST WEEK: The
evening was balmy, the food delicious and the program informative and
entertaining. If you missed this annual
potluck you missed a good time! Kim Rassi, who raises, breeds and sells Alpacas gave a detailed
presentation on the reasons why Alpaca raising is a growing business especially
in Ohio. It is very lucrative, little
work and most expenses are tax deductible.
Good breeding stock animals can sell for $50,000 to over $500,000. Some “pet quality” can be purchased for
$2,000 or $3,000. Alpacas are in the
camel family with the Llamas, although they are smaller and less versatile then
the Llama. They are very stupid and
really cannot be trained to do anything but walk on a lead for show purposes. They do not relish human company nor do they especially
like to be petted or played with. They
are a product to be sold, bred and shirred for their fleeces. Ms. Rassi indicated
that within two years of starting her Alpaca farm she raised her annual income
to well into the six-figure range. She
currently has between 50 and 60 Alpacas

AURORA CONVENTION: Senick and Spilker
are planning to attend the Ohio District Convention on Saturday, August 11th. If you would like to join them contact either
one of them.
