NEXT MEETING: We will be at the Pickleworks next week.  This will be a short meeting and comradeship.  No program is scheduled.

PAST WEEK:  David Kilarski, CEO for Marymount Hospital spoke about the services and programs offered at Marymount..  They have unique programs such as a sleep center, Behavioral Health, pain management, obstetrics and many more.  The sisters of St. Joseph third Order of St. Frances started the hospital in 1942.  Today, even though it is owned by Cleveland Clinic, it is the only Cleveland Clinic and not for profit hospital still backed and somewhat controlled by religious.  Kilarski stated that the biggest problem facing hospitals, today, is the shortage or nurses.  There are over 300 job classifications in a hospital and Marymount is working with Trinity High School to make its students aware of all the jobs that are available.

SUNSHINE:  Edie Schilla reported that Agan is in Parma Hospital waiting to have open-heart surgery.  Give him a day or two and then he may enjoy visits and calls.  Our sympathies go out to John Kapusta and family in the loss of his dad.  Let’s keep them in our prayers.

HOMEDAYS:    Sell those raffle tickets!  See Molnar if you need more books.  Senick still could use some help at the ladies pie booth.

    MEMO FROM THE PRESIDENT

To the Current Members of the Kiwanis Club of Independence,

After receiving comments from members concerning our requirements for mandatory attendance to club meetings, the Board of Directors has reviewed the matter and has decided not to make any changes to the current requirements.  This discussion took place at our Board Meeting held on July 2, 2007.

Per Article 5, Section 2 of our Club By-laws, the Board of Directors shall review semi-annually the individual active membership based on two criteria: Attendance of at least two (2) membership meetings per month for a minimum total of twenty-four (24) meetings annually and participation in at least two (2) major projects annually.  Attendance and participation below these levels will be cause for the Board of Directors review.

After a lengthy discussion, all members of the Board present at that meeting unanimously agreed to the following:

    - Since our club runs so many projects and programs though out the year, we rely on the weekly meetings to serve as a communication tool to keep our members informed and current on all club activities and club needs.

    - The meetings also serve as a vehicle to foster and enhance the spirit of camaraderie that we are known for.

    - These weekly meetings are necessary to maintain continuity in the planning of our club activities.

    - While meetings are held on a weekly basis, members are free to select which meetings they will attend.  Board Meetings and interclub meetings are also valid meetings to attend.

The Board’s main concern is that we have members who actively participate and support our club projects.

This By-law is a guideline that we hope members will strive to attain.  As such, the Board has decided that the By-law remains as is written

Please feel free to contact either me or any of the other Board members to discuss any further comments or concerns that you may have

    Respectfully submitted
