    NEXT MEETING:  Tom Cravens from the Akron Aeros baseball team will be here to talk about the Aeros.

     

    PAST WEEK:  There was no program due to the regularly scheduled Board Meeting

     

    BOARD MEETING NOTES:

    1.       The Board unanimously approved a leave of absence for Tom Boyle due to his work schedule, which takes him out of state for several days during the week.

    2.       The board discussed several other members who have not paid dues or attended meetings and or our fundraisers.  These members will be notified as to the decision of the board.

    3.       The date of the Fall Chicken BBQ was discussed.  The date may need to be changed.  We have been asked to work the concession jointly with the Independence Boosters for the Tae Kwon Do Tournament at the shared facility, which is Sept. 15th the day before our Fall Chicken BBQ.  Chuck Schilla will chair the BBQ

    SINGING:  Hornack led us in singing “Happy Birthday” to Spilker.

     

    HAPPY DOLLARS:  Kapusta was happy because his daughter was recently elected Key Club President.  Hornak tossed in a buck for the visit he had with his son from Florida.  Rusnaczyk was delighted with his grandchild’s good grades.  Chrzanowski’s dollar was donated because it was June   Rejna had a great trip to Florida and the Caribbean.  Wright’s grandson, Tyler, graduated from the 8th grade, which was cause for Wright to donate a buck.  Kreizenbeck was delighted that his 90-year-old dad, has undergone quadruple by pass surgery and is doing well.  Ornas was happy with the healing process. 

     

    BUILDER’S CLUB:  Edie Schilla remainded everyone that even if school is not in session, to continue saving box tops for the Builders’ Club.

     

    LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE:  All new and returning officers and Board Members check with Senick to register for the Leadership Conference on June 16th

     

    CHICKEN BBQ:  Zak encouraged everyone to get their tickets back to him so that he can get a final count of the Chicken BBQ

    SPECIAL PROJECT:  We will have a work party on June 18th after our regular meeting.  Edie Schilla will organize the packing of school supplies for the Children in Afghanistan.

     

    DIVISION COUNCIL:  Division Council will meet on Thursday June 21st at 8:15 pm at Busch Funeral Chapel on Ridge Rd.  These meeting are open to everyone. 

     

    PRESIDENT’S REPORT:  President Chrzanowski reported that the Division is looking for volunteers to help with the Conference in Aurora on August 9 – 12.  They are looking for members who can spend about four hours in various positions – registration, store etc.  Contact Chrzanowski if you can help. 

       Chrzanowski related that the dedication of the Renee Roach Gardens at the Middle School was very well done and that our Harry Todt should be given a great deal of credit for the work he did on the pergola.

     

    SCHOLARSHIPS:   Shallcross announced that $5,900 in scholarships was awarded on June 1st.  This year the scholarships were opened to all Independence students whether they attended Independence high or not.  Three applications were received from students attending other high schools.  The Scholarship winners were:

         Kiwanis Scholarship – Ray Lui   $2.000 for 4 years

         Key Club Awards of $600 each: - Amber Vererka

                 Joseph Augustyn, Carley Kalish, Jenna Wagner, and Lauren Laski.  Congratulations to all of them.

    Shallcross thanked his committee:  Spilker, Bob Jordan, Senick and Young for all their diligent efforts.

        experience at the HOBY Conference.
