NEXT MEETING: There will be no program on May 7 since we will be holding our regular monthly Board Meeting

PAST WEEK:  Chris Ronayne, President of University Circle, Inc. spoke about the group’s mission for advocacy and growth, to distinguish University Circle as a center of innovation in health care, education, arts and culture.  The area, which is only one square mile is rich in hospitals, schools and cultural and arts venues.  Among these are the Cleveland Clinic, Case Western Reserve University Cleveland Art Museum, the National History Museum Cultural Gardens Lakeview Cemetery and Wade Oval to name just a few.  Urban housing is planned which includes over 1,000 new townhouse-style homes.  Enhancing the traffic flow on Euclid Ave., landscaping, and better signage etc. are all in the planning stages to attract the public to this culturally rich area.

GUESTS:  There were many spouses in attendance, which always makes for a pleasurable evening.

SUNSHINE:  Kukawka had surgery last Friday and is recovering.  Prognosis is good!

SINGING:  Renditions of “The Band Played On” and “See you in My Dreams” were sung with vigor.

BUILDER’S CLUB: Edie Schilla reported that the kids are working on Teacher Appreciation Day in May.  Plans for an appreciation party for the students are in the works.

SPIRITUAL AIMS:  Wright encouraged the members to mark their calendars for May 21.  A Round-table session with the five local church ministers is scheduled to determine need, identify projects and get ideas how we can  help them.

COMMUNITY SERVICES:  You know the familiar cry, “bring your stuff”.  The flag contest is difficult this year and Klepacz may have to judge on a curve.

VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT:  Iula reported that all went well.  He gave a BIG THANK YOU to all who helped.  Final numbers are not in yet.

SPECIAL PROJECT:  The collection of school supplies for Afghanistan schools is getting a great response.  All three schools are participating.  Bring stuff to Edie Schilla.  We will probably pack boxes sometime the first week of June.  Help will be needed!

FISHING DERBY:  Saturday, May 5th is the day for casting off at Elmwood Pond.  Fish will be delivered on Wednesday, May 2nd.  The committee is looking for Entertainment book coupons for Dicks Sporting Goods to help defray costs for supplies and prizes.  Dick’s will not be giving discount s this year.

K KIDS:  The Club will hold a reception to Charter the St. Michael’s K-Kids Club on Thursday, May 17th from 6:30 to 7:30 pm at the Civic Center.  Everyone is invited.

CHICKEN BBQ:  Sunday, May 20th at the Elmwood Pavilion.  As always the whole club needs to pitch in and help.

TAE KWON DO:  A special event scheduled for Sept. 15th.  We were asked to run the concession stand at the Field House.  We are working this jointly with the I.H.S. Athletic Boosters.  Stay tune for more information.  This is the day before the Fall Chicken BBQ.

    NOMINATING COMMITTEE RESULTS.
