NEXT MEETING: Next week, March 26, 2007 Independence Police Chief John Nicastro accompanied by Ptl. Joe Vanecek will be our speaker.

PAST WEEK:  Tara Quinn first year reporter for the Sun Courier Newspapers gave a brief overview of her responsibilities at the paper.  She is required to cover the City of Independence and for turning in six to seven stories each week.  Another one of her responsibilities is the Community Life Page of the Sun.  Quinn graduated from Cleveland State University and started her career by freelancing in North Royalton and Hudson.  She began her talk by telling us about her “goofs” and how the community responded to them.  Her most intriguing assignment was spending a night in a “haunted” house after which she wrote about.  After learning all that she can at the community based papers, Quinn hopes one day to work for the Plain Dealer

SUNSHINE:  Kukawka ‘s surgery has been postponed due to other issues that have arisen.

HAPPY DOLLARS  Scouloukas, who was passing the bucket, threw one in for his birthday.  Chrzanowski had a dollar for the Wooster College Orchestra performance.  Kapusta was “just happy”.  Klepacz parted with a dollar because of a wager he made and after his lengthy explanation must be winning.  Edie Schilla was happy her Daffodils were in bloom.  It means spring is just around the corner.  Tara Quinn, our speaker had a buck for being here and hoping the group wouldn’t heckle her.  Penitz welcomed another smoker (Quinn) with his dollar.  Wright tossed in a buck for Chuck Schilla who was doing a lot of research and spending a lot of time getting information on the Chicken BBQ grates.  Duhan had a dollar for his son because he was at the top of this class, however, he could tell what the class was.  Scott finally brought in the projector donated to the Kiwanis so he felt that was worth two bucks.

SINGING:  A BIG Happy Birthday was sung to Scouloukas and to Tara Quinn, our speaker, who both have birthdays this week.  “Wait til the Sun Shines, Nellie was Mycoskie’s second selection.  We did a fair job on both songs.  Do you think we are actually getting better!

THINK SPRING!!AUDIT COMMITTEE:  Iula reported that the Audit Committee reviewed our Treasurer’s books and found them to be in very good order.  Great Job, John!

NOMINATING COMMITTEE: Scott announced that there will be a Nominating Committee Meeting of all the past presidents, after next Monday’s meeting.

A SPECIAL REQUEST:  Our second Vice-President and Program Chair, Edie Schilla is requesting that for the next two meetings all members bring in several non-perishable foods.  These items will be turned over to Concordia Lutheran Church.  They are trying to build up their food bank for the coming Easter Holiday.  Let’s get those canned goods in for this very good cause.

COMMUNITY SERVICES:  Klepacz thanked the unknown donor who dropped items off at his home.  He also stated that the winners of the Flag Contest will be receiving Bennington Flags instead of the Lone Star due to costs.

BUILDER’S CLUB:   There is still time to get you items to Edie Schilla for the Builder’s Club overseas project.  They are looking for a variety of things to be sent to our service men and women.  Some of the items are baby wipes, single packs of Kleenex, snack foods (no chocolate), pop tarts, cookies, powered drink mixes for water, trail mix magazines, etc.  Bring them to the next meeting.
