NEXT MEETING: Next week, January 15th join us for a celebration of 55 years.  That’s right!  A few very dedicated men organized Independence Kiwanis 55 years ago.  Today, we are privileged to still have as a member one of our founders.  Come, bring your spouse and celebrate!  Please, let Edie Schilla know if you are bringing a guest so that she can prepare the kitchen.  We also will be inducting Justin Weseloh into the club.

PAST WEEK:  No speaker was scheduled because of the monthly Board Meeting.

    BOARD MEETING NOTES:

    1.       After a lengthy discussion and some modifications, the Board approved the 2006-2007 budget.

    2.       The audit committee, Iula, Kreizenbeck and Freilino will be reviewing the treasurer’s books.

    3.       The Scholarship Committee will meet and review the criteria we use for awarding scholarships.  They will report back at the February meeting.

    4.       Replacing the racks we use at the Chicken BBQ with stainless steel ones for easier clean up was brought before the board, since there were many questions the subject was tabled until the February meeting.

SUNSHINE:  It was good to have Wright back among us.

It’s a New Year.  Let’s celebrate all of our many Blessings and Thank the Lord for all the little things!

HAPPY DOLLARS:  As would be predicted there were several dollars for the Buckeyes.  Chrzanowski had a buck for the first good Kiwanis deed that he witnessed this year.  A woman’s car was stuck in the parking lot and two Kiwanis members, led by Todt pushed it out and got her on her way.  Kreizenbeck was ecstatic his son was in for Christmas and he got a job with State Farm as a supervisor of adjustors.  Nicastro tossed in a buck because again she had so much fun doing Santa Delivery.  Wright’s dollar was two fold – one for being back and one for Ornas being a grandma, again.  Spilker had a wonderful time in Tennessee.

Senick, the ever observer, added a dollar for our newest (and youngest) member Justin Weseloh who tried desperately to sing our choice of songs, one which was way before his time.

PANCAKE BREAKFAST:  Kapusta reminded everyone that the Pancake Breakfast is coming up quickly.  Sunday, March 4th from 9 am to 2:00 pm at the Middle School.  Set up Saturday, March 3rd and pancake turners etc. should be available Sunday early.  Tickets will be available shortly.  -

VOLLEYBALL TOURNMENT:  Scheduled for April 28 and 29th according to Iula is all sold out.  Twenty-four teams have been signed up to play each day.

COMMUNITY SERVICES:  Klepacz read a thank you note from the Yuletide family that Kiwanis sponsored.  He thanked everyone that brought their gifts to him on time, and wrapped.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT:  President Chrzanowski again stated that we need someone to handle the Public Relations.  We need writers for the newsletter, photographers and some one to contact the newspapers.  See him.  He read a letter congratulating the club on their 55th anniversary

INTER-CLUB.  Benes has scheduled an inter-club with Tremont on Thursday, January 11.  The Club meets at St. Augustine’s on W 14th street at 5:00 pm

    WEEKLY THOUGHT

If all misfortunes were laid in one common heap whence everyone must take an equal portion, most people would be contented to take their own and depart.
