NEXT
MEETING: Our next meeting will be on
Oct 30,2006 with Mr. Roger Howard, the new principal of the Independence High
School as our speaker.
PAST
WEEK: Kathy Kapusta and John
Nicastro gave an insightful presentation into the senior housing issue, which
will be on the ballot this November. The
issue does not address any particular form of housing, that will be decided
later, what it does do is to rezone the property behind the Lutheran Church and
Historic Hall on Brecksville Rd. to accommodate housing for seniors in whatever
form. It could be cluster homes,
apartments, condos or single-family units.
No more the 218 units can be developed in this area. Both presenters were very knowledgeable on
the subject.
SUNSHINE: President Chrzanowski stated
that he had talked with Scouloukas who is home and recuperating
from his surgery. Wheaton
is getting along, slowly. It was good to
see, “arm in sling” Senick back among the ranks.
HAPPY
DOLLARS: Molnar, one of our newest members,
who we were so glad to see, was recruited to collect “Happy Dollars” in the
absence of Scouloukas. Kapusta
tossed in a buck for our speaker, who just happened to be his wife. He also honored the High School Volleyball
and Soccer teams with a dollar tribute. Spilker
had a great visit with her brother in Tennessee, which was worth a dollar. Senick’s return drew several
dollars from our members. Hornack
was delighted with his trips to Arizona and Michigan. Iula tossed in a buck just to
see Molnar present.
SINGING: Hornack, even though he’s been gone
for a few weeks hasn’t lost his touch in leading us in singing. Three songs were on the placard – Happy
Birthday to Molnar and Boyle, “Take Me Out to the
Ballgame” and “Wait til the Sun Shines, Nellie” were all sung enthusiastically.
GUESTS: Lisa again accompanied Weseloh for a
visit. She has taken an application for
membership and we can expect it returned shortly.
INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS: International Relations Chair, Rejna
reported that he is looking into providing more support to Fr. Jenne from St.
Basil’s on his trips to Honduras, perhaps even sending a Kiwanis volunteer.
MAKE
A DIFFERENCE DAY: Remember, Sunday, October
29, 2006 is Kiwanis “Make a Difference Day” This year’s project is the
rebuilding of a bridge at the Land Lab.
Several men are needed. Beginning
at 12 and going to approximately 4:00 pm.
Contact Chrzanowski if you are interested in
helping.447.0432.
INTER-CLUB: Richfield is the destination this month for an
Inter-Club. Thursday, October 26 our
Independence members are meeting at Concordia at 5:45 pm to travel to Richfield
as a group. All new members should
attend at least one Inter-Club during the year.
Call Benes at 524.4038.
PUBLIC
RELATIONS: PR Chair, Nicastro,
is looking for a few good members to work on the Public Relations
Committee. Photographers, “Kiwanis
Corner” writers and press release composes are a few of the positions
available. Get in contact with Nicastro
if you are willing to help in any way.
PRESIDENT’S
REPORT: President Chrzanowski
read Thank You notes from Senick for all our well wishes and flowers,
also from the Cornerstone of Hope for our donation. He reported that he was trying to get a high
school student or two to attend the Key Leader conference this coming
weekend. Key Leader is similar to the
HOBY leadership conference and last year we had determined that we would send
students to both conferences. He mentioned
a couple of future projects that he felt were viable for our group. One was putting the address book on the
computer and the other replacing the deliberators in the churches.
