NEXT MEETING:  Our next meeting will be September 11, 2006 at 6:30.  We will be returning to Concordia Lutheran Church.  No program is scheduled but there will be a Board Meeting.

PAST WEEK:  John Muni from John Muni Jewelers was our guest speaker.  His topic was a surprise to all of us.  Instead of talking about the jewelry business or gems or diamonds, he spoke on a subject that is very dear to his heart.  When John retired he wondered what he was going to do with his time.  He decided it was time to give back; therefore, he became involved in the Red Cross as a disaster action team leader.  John told us that the Red Cross does more than collect blood.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT President Scott announced that there would be a work party in collaboration with the Key Club at Footes Farm on Canal Road in Valley View, Thursday, August 31st.  Footes Nursery took a big hit during the recent floods.  The family home next to the nursery was trashed.  Help is needed to pull out the drywall and strip away anything that has been damaged before rebuilding can begin.  The Footes have always been generous to our club, now they need our help.  Thursday, August 31 from approximately 4:00 pm until dark the Key Club and Kiwanis members will be removing the debris.  Bring gloves and face masks (mold is beginning to form) spend as much or as little time as you can!

ANNOUNCEMENTS:  Chrzanowski announced that he had met with the mayor in regards to our club’s concerns about Home Days.  The mayor agreed that there were some areas that needed to be addressed.  The City has not had the opportunity to hold their Homedays evaluation meeting as yet.  They will soon and the issues will be addressed.

WEEKLY THOUGHT

I don’t know anything about luck.  I’ve never banked on it, and I’m afraid of people who do.  Luck to me is something else; hard work-and realizing what is opportunity and what isn’t.
