In honor of Flag Day, the Kiwanis Club of Independence, sponsors a community wide flag contest. Contestants are required to answer five questions correctly to be eligible to win a flag. This year’s flag was the “First Navy Jack”. On June 12, 2014, twenty-five flags were given away to individuals who correctly answered the five questions that appeared in the Independence Spotlight. The Kiwanis Club of Independence held its 46th annual Fishing Derby on Saturday, May 3, 2014. The dreary weather couldn't keep over 135 children from casting their reels with the hope of catching the big one. The largest fish caught was a 19-1/2" catfish.
The following children snagged the largest catch.
This year's gorgeous weather brought everyone out to the Kiwanis Pavilion for the 95th BBQ. We served approximately 1000 dinners on Sunday, May 18, 2014. We would like to thank all of the individuals who volunteered to make this year's event a success. Mark your calendars for our Fall BBQ. It will be held on Sunday, September 14, 2014.
