Kiwanis protects the hearts of Independence Churches
Kiwanis has donated 4 new portable defribulators to update units placed at four area churches in recent years. The newest units are even easier to operate and have the latest technology and software to save lives. Older units will now be carried by IFD personnel in their cars to broaden coverage of the city.

The City of Independence and congregations will continue to work together to provide training to insure that immediate assistance can be provided in the critical moments after a coronary event. Kiwanis has donated over $10,000 for defribulators for city churches.

Spouses Night! The Cuyahoga County Auditor
Our speakers told us one of the main functions of their office is to set the property values that we see on our tax bills. They encouraged us to avail ourselves of their office if we feel our appraisals are too high. They reassurred us that they will work with us to reduce our appraisal, not to try to collect infomation to raise our taxes. They suggested that any information we can provide, such as recent appraisals, homestead exemption, etc, make it easier to get an adjustment.

Speaker: The American Diabetes Association
Learned a great deal about recognizing the onset of diabetes. Compelling information on the number, age and increase in diabetes, especially in younger people, related to our life styles. In the next 50 years the rate of diabetes could rise to 1 in 3 if we all don't take steps to educate and provide healthy alternatives for our children.

Foote's Flood (work) Party Before Pictures
(Kiwanis & Key Club) Foote's Nursury on Canal road took a big hit in the recent floods. They are back in business but the house next door was trashed. We will be gutting as much as we can (pulling out the drywall and stripping away anything that has to go before rebuilding.)These folks are our neighbors and never hesitated to help our town. They could use a hand. And, it's a whole lot closer than our earlier projects in Slidel,La and Pass Christian, Ms. Map
